Falconer Vineyards was the promise of a beautiful day, good wine and great pizza that wasn’t to be. Patience, please. Continue reading “Falconer Vineyards – Red Wing, MN”
Cranky Franks BBQ – Fredericksburg, TX
Cajun French: le coteau (lu kō-tō) – hill
In the middle of the Texas Hill Country in German Fredericksburg, you can’t get much more German. We were searching for good German food which eluded us (maybe three years in Germany had something to do with not finding what we were looking for). But take heart, this was Texas. And in Texas you are never far from good BBQ! Then we see an ad for Cranky Frank’s BBQ. Continue reading “Cranky Franks BBQ – Fredericksburg, TX”
Fredericksburg Pie Company – Texas
Cajun French: la tarte (la tart) – pie
Pie? Don’t even mention sweets around John or make way for the stampede. As we eat our way through the Texas Hill Country we try new, recommended, or interesting places. One of those places was the Fredericksburg Pie Company – they only sell pie. Continue reading “Fredericksburg Pie Company – Texas”
The Picnic, Austin, TX
Cajun French: le “truck” (lu “truck”) – truck
Picnics are something we enjoy especially on a cool spring day. So when Mike and Heidi said park and picnic, we said let’s go!
The park was the Zilker Botanical Gardens and the picnic, well that was not what we expected. Actually it was more than we expected; it was food truck heaven. Continue reading “The Picnic, Austin, TX”
Georgetown, TX Farmers Market
Cajun French: Jeudi (ju-dee) – Thursday
Finding a city with two farmers markets is like hitting a jackpot. That is what we found in Georgetown, TX — one is a Saturday market, Wolf Ranch Farmers Market, and the other is a Thursday market, Georgetown Farmers Market.
Being able to shop a farmers market twice a week allows us exposure to more local produce and products, usually by different farmers and vendors, expanding the possibilities for our cooking. Continue reading “Georgetown, TX Farmers Market”
Dos Salsas, Georgetown, TX
Cajun French: Samedi (som-dee) – Saturday
Our Saturday morning equation is breakfast out and a farmers market. Some mornings it is breakfast first and then shopping and other times it is reversed. The order does not matter, it is getting both accomplished that we look forward to.
Being in an area for one maybe two Saturday’s at most does not give us time to search out those out of the way hole in the walls places. So we rely on friends to steer us in the best direction. Continue reading “Dos Salsas, Georgetown, TX”
Wolf Ranch Farmers Market, Georgetown, TX
Cajun French: le fromage (lu frō-maj) – cheese
Another Saturday, another farmers market…
We visit so many farmers markets, you would think they all begin to look the same. Absolutely not! Each is different even though some have similar veggies and other products. One of the things we enjoy is visiting different areas and seeing what is in season since each growing season is different for each area. Continue reading “Wolf Ranch Farmers Market, Georgetown, TX”
Chicken Fried What? Snook, TX
Cajun French: le béquine (lu bā-keen) – bacon
Snook, TX population 511. Why in the world would we want to visit – what possibly could be of interest? For John, it has been about five years in the making. That’s how long it’s been since he first heard about Snook. Maybe more specifically, what Snook offered the foodie culture – chicken fried bacon. That is correct – fat, dipped in fat, fried in fat. Continue reading “Chicken Fried What? Snook, TX”
Food Fight at New Republic Brewing, College Station, TX
Cajun French: le manger (lu mon-jā) – food
Someone threw a roll, then someone else threw a kernel of corn, and so it began – food fight in the high school cafeteria. Not something you would want to be involved in later in life. So why would we intentionally go to a “food fight”? Continue reading “Food Fight at New Republic Brewing, College Station, TX”
Brazos Valley Farmers Market, Bryan, TX
Cajun French: le jardinage (lu jar-deen-aj) – vegetables
It’s really kind of ironic that we are dedicated locavores considering we full time RV and constantly change our location. Maybe because of this, Saturday’s have a special meaning for us – farmers markets!
